Lite News: Vegetables & Summer Gardening

It's a wonderful time of year here in Minnesota and the garden is prolific with vegetables. Green beans are especially prolific. And of course in no time we will be giving away zucchinis. We try our best to pick them before they become big enough to use as a defensive weapon.

In the garden, there are growing a variety of vegetables, broccoli, cabbage, basil, onions, carrots, rhubarb, cucumbers, and watermelons. Each vegetable has its own unique nutrients to promote health. All of them are good for pH balance. At times a vegetable has its day in the "health news" and its "five minutes of fame." And those of us who like and eat that vegetable are encouraged and say to ourselves, "Hmm carrots I didn't know they had so many health benefits. I should really be eating a lot of carrots. "And then there are those that say to themselves, "Hmm I really don't like carrots, but I suppose I should start eating them because they're so healthy." And with some vegetables no matter what amazing health benefits are touted we just won't eat them. I'm not going to start eating radishes even if I learn that they are the fountain of youth.

Below is a list of vegetables. Are there some you haven't tried yet? Be adventurous try a new vegetable. You might like it.

Person of Note

Kevin Hewitt: Master Gardener.

In this age of corporate farming and manmade artificial GMO crops it's good to know there are those who respect nature. Kevin Hewitt, a stuccoer by trade, is a gardener at heart.

Family and friends benefit from Kevin's love of gardening. I recently gave a friend some green beans and broccoli from Kevin's garden. Her children raved at how delicious the broccoli was. It's not genetically altered "super" veggies grown by corporate farmers that we need. What we need is rich vegetables grown by gardeners and farmers that respect nature.

You may not have a garden or know someone who does. In the growing season got out to your local Farmer's Market. There's something therapeutic and life affirming in going to the Farmer's Market and selecting a variety of vegetables.

What's Happening?

Even though Leanne, a young mother, was unable to drop her two little ones off with her husband she was determined to make it to last week's Essential Oil class. So, she arrived right on time with two tired little ones. Myas was especially disagreeable and began to cry and fuss. She was inconsolable until Kathy held out a glass and asked, "Would you like some FrequenSea, Mya." With that the room was suddenly quiet and still as Mya looked at the glass waiting for Kathy to pour her some FrequenSea.

Something to make you laugh, smile or just lift your spirits
